Overview
The Special Education - Learning and Behavior Online Sequence, mainly known as PULSE (Paraprofessionals Unlocking Licensure in Special Education) is designed for special education paraprofessionals with at least 2 years of classroom experience seeking to earn their Bachelor’s degree in Special Education and their Professional Educator’s License (PEL) with a Learning Behavioral Specialist I (LBS I) endorsement.

This program is fully online with coursework completed both synchronously and asynchronously. PULSE is streamlined from our traditional learning and behavior program and is designed to specifically meet the educational needs of adult learners and capitalize on your experiences as working paraprofessionals. Participants are able to continue working as a paraprofessional throughout the program, including during clinicals and student teaching.

Applying to Illinois State
This program is not available for new freshmen as all PULSE candidates apply as transfer students. To determine your admission eligibility for PULSE, please complete the Pre-Application Form. Otherwise, freshmen can learn more about the on-campus Special Education program.
